0 April 1 question - The IWSG’s focus is on our writers. Each month, from all over the globe, we are a united group sharing our insecurities, our troubles, and our pain. So, in this time when our world is in crisis with the covid-19 pandemic, our optional question this month is: how are things in your world? Firstly, I hope everyone in all communities - not just our writing community - is staying safe and well in these troubling times. This pandemic seems to be more like something out of a novel than real life, but we will pull through it and get out at the other side.…

Film Review – 1917
0 Film Review – 1917. The following is a totally independent and unbiased review of the 2019 film, “1917”, by Chris Pennington. 2019, Director: Sam Mendes (Skyfall) It may seem strange to start a new film review section of a fantasy novel website with a war movie, but this film is just so damn good not to write about. So Film Review – 1917 is the first one, and what a good one it is too! The story centres around Lance Corporals Will Schofield (George Mackay – Pride, Captain Fantastic, Ophelia) and Tom Blake (Dean-Charles Chapman – Game of Thrones’ Tommen), who are tasked with delivering a message to call…

What Started You On Your Writing Journey?
0 January 8 question - What started you on your writing journey? Was it a particular book, movie, story, or series? Was it a teacher/coach/spouse/friend/parent? Did you just "know" suddenly you wanted to write? I’m sure I will not be the first aspiring fantasy author to say that my writing journey began with George RR Martin’s A Song of Ice & Fire. 0 Today is the first Wednesday of the month, and my first ever post to the Insecure Writer's Support Group - so firstly a big hello to all fellow members! A link to the IWSG website can be found here. So maybe it is a little odd that my first post to the group comes with little insecurity at all. So me being the worrying kind that I am, it got me thinking - should I have insecurities, or have I just been lucky enough to so far avoid them? Writing to me is currently more of a hobby than anything else. Sure, it would be lovely to think that…

Why World of Warcraft made me love dragons
0 I love dragons. The beautiful, mysterious, enigmatic creatures hold a fascination for me that has gone back to my childhood. For as long as I can remember, I have been enchanted by stories, folklore, films, games and books that have had anything to do with these magnificent beings. Perhaps my earliest recollection is from avidly watching the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon series on TV. Now in my early-forties, the only thing that sticks out in my mind from that series is that it had dragons. I can’t remember any of the other characters, just the dragons. Looking back, this must have been where the fascination started. Yet it has…
